About

Made by a real person

PhotoCuller isn't built by a faceless corporation. It's built by a developer who loves taking photos and got tired of slow culling tools.

Jeff, the developer of PhotoCuller

My photography journey started with a cheap used camera I picked up from an online marketplace before an international holiday trip. I did not know then how far that first camera would take me. Since then I’ve moved through Fuji, Nikon, Sony, and eventually found my way back to Fuji.

Along the way, one part of the workflow kept bothering me: culling. Lightroom felt heavier than I needed for simply reviewing images, comparing similar frames, rating keepers, and moving on. Before I switched to macOS, I was a heavy Linux user and spent a lot of time with Fast Raw Downloader and Darktable. That faster, more focused workflow stuck with me.

After moving to Mac, I looked for something similar. Photo Mechanic was often recommended, but it felt expensive for my needs and the interface was not what I wanted to use every day. Other newer culling apps seemed to center on AI features, while I mostly wanted speed, clarity, and control.

So I started building the app I wished existed for myself. That became PhotoCuller.
